1 (Sunday) Map: Carte Nationale de la
Suisse (CN) Val dIlliez 1304 & Monthey 1284
A day of reckoning!
09h00 Walk from Morgins (1330) to the Bec de Corbeau (1991). Descend to
the Portes de Culet and then follow the Arete de Pre Fleuri to the Pointe
de Bellevue. In places, this is a very narrow path through shale &
scree with a very steep ascent to the Pte de Bellevue. A quite gentle
return to Morgins via the Ferrage alpage. Walking time: 6 hours
Day 2 Map: CN Val dIlliez

4 day hike to Chamonix: Morgins to Susanfe.
Minibus to Tovassiere (1689m). Walk from Tovassiere to the Portes du Soleil
(1950m) & then follow the contours to the Col de Cou at 1920m. Follow
the Arete de Berroi and descend to Barme at 1492m (refuge). Climb to the
Col de Barme at 1794m and then descend to the delightful Bonavau cabine
at 1550m. A gentle, then increasingly steep climb through the Pas dEncel
leads us to the Refuge de Susanfe at 2100m. Stone CAS hut. Basicwashbasins
and loos a short walk from the refuge (no showers) - but atmospheric.
Walking time: 89 hours. Hot dinner provided.
Day 3 Map: CN Barberine 1324
Susanfe to Emosson.
Steady, (quite steep) climb to the Col de Susanfe at 2494m. Glorious views
of the Salanfe lake & surrounding mountains. Pretty vertiginous descent
to the lake at 1980m and then a straightforward walk around the lake followed
by a reasonable climb to the Lac des Ottans at 2070m. Increasingly steep
climb from Ottans to the Col dEmaney at 2462m. The grassy col makes
an ideal picnic stop with views to the distant Mont Blanc and the third
Col of the day, the Col de Barberine.
Straightforward descent to Belle Combe at 1970m. After crossing the river,
there is a gentle ascent which becomes an increasingly steep climb through
shale and scree to the Col at 2481m. Very pleasant descent through pasture
land to the lake at Emosson. Gentle walk on a road following the lake
shore through a couple of tunnels leading to Emosson itself at 1930m.
Spacious dormitories, showers & excellent restaurant. Views from the
dormitories over to the Mont Blanc massif. Walking time: 9 hours
