Limbering up on the Cornettes de Bise in France
This is the shortest of our walks but it is definitely one of the most dramatic. A mere 8 kms takes roughly 5 hours to complete at a steady walking pace. The ascent from the Chalets de Chevenne at 1217m via the Pas de la Bosse is long and steep. The descent similar! The views from the top are stunning - you can see from one end of Lake Geneva to the other - and the scramble to the summit at 2432m is definitely on the wild side! This hike takes you through a Nature Reserve and you will see plenty of wildlife including mountain Ibex. This walk and all of our walks on the High Trails programme is not recommended to anyone suffering from vertigo.

Days 2, 3, 4 CN Diablarets 1285 & Dents de Morcles 1305
Tour of the Muverans.
An early start with a minibus transfer to Solalex at 1469m. A steady climb brings us to Anzeindax at 1876. We then cross Le Plat—a plateau at the bottom of the impressive Diablerets mountain range—towards the Pas de Cheville at 2038m. A steep descent brings us to the ancient, white pine forest above and around Derborence (1500m)—the only forest of its kind in the Alps. From Derborence we climb steadily through magnificent, continually changing alpine scenery until we reach the Col de la Forcla at 2612m, having walked around the artificial lake created to irrigate the Chamoson vineyards and traversed the remains of the glacier de la Forcla. From the Col, there is a steep but short descent, a gentle traverse and a final sharp climb to the Cabane Rambert at 2580m. This is where we spend the first night. No washing facilities but a very warm welcome and excellent food.
Walking time: Approximately 7 hours.

Day 3 starts with a fairly steep descent which quickly brings us to some gentle walking through forest and pasture land. We drop to a height of 1750m before slowly gaining height to reach the Col de Fenestral at 2453—the final section presents quite a steep climb. The descent to the Lac de Fully is without problem, as is the climb to the Col du Demecre at 2361m. From here we push on to the Cabane de la Torche; after a fairly steep descent, we follow a series of steep, short climbs and descents to the Cabane de la Torche at 2198m. This is a basic refuge with washing facilities (no showers) and a warm welcome.
Walking time: 8 hours
