Day 4 A steep climb takes us to the Col de Perris Blancs
at 2544m and from here there is a long descentthrough a veritable alpine
sanctuary to the Pont de Nant at 1253m. The Col des Essets at 2029m presents
few problems but guarantees a marvellous change of scenery, particularly
the Vare plateau at 1750m. Our walk finishes back at Solalex.
Walking time: Approximately 7 hours
We may alter the overnight stops depending on weather conditions and stamina!
This is a very big walk to do in 3 days.
Day 5 & 6 Map: CN Val d’Illiez
1304.
The Haute Cime
A morning of R&R in preparation for the Haute Cime. A minibus will
leave Morgins at about 13h00 to take us to the Grand Paradis where we
start the ascent to the Cabane de Susanfe. Our path takes us steadily
from 1000m to the delightful refuge at Bonavau (1550m). From here the
path rises steeply through the Pas d’Encel with its fixed ropes and
thence to the Cabane de Susanfe at 2102 where we will spend the night.
Day 6
An early start from the Cabane with a steady climb to the Col de Susanfe
at 2494m. From here we rise steeply to the Col de Paresseux at 3056 and
thence to the Haute Cime at 3257m. This last section, from the Col de
Susanfe is very steep and the going is slow. The views from the top are,
however, well worth the effort with the whole of the Alps laid out before
you. Our descent to the Grand Paradis is between 3 and 4 hours.
Walking time: 6—7 hours.
